TYPES OF FOOD WASTE MANAGEMENT

Food waste digestion is the conversion of food waste into liquid nutrients and non-portable water. This water can then be reused or discharged safely to the sewage system accordign to PUB (Singapore’s National Water Agency) discharge requirements and compliance standards.

Food waste composting helps convert food waste into organic fertiliser. This fertiliser can be used directly or combined with further elements depending on purpose. This process also helps to reduce food waste cost.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECYCLE FOOD WASTE

To reduce harmful gas emissions

Food waste does not break down easily when it gets disposed at landfills. Not only does it take up space on our small nation, food waste has a negative impact on the environment as releases methane when it decomposes. Methane is a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change and global warming, and we should all do our part in protecting our environment.

A cleaner and safer environment

Improper management of food waste will lead to undesirable environmental side effects such as the proliferation of pests by being a breeding ground, unpleasant odours and even contamination of the surroundings. Our team at Boon Poh will show you how our food waste recycling programme helps to reduce air pollution from incineration plants and to conserve the limited lifespan of Singapore’s one and only landfill.
